We’re now partway through November – a month affectionately known as Movember thanks to a moustache-growing charity event that raises money for men’s health.
Columbia Heights police officers are keeping their upper lips warm this month to raise awareness for men’s health – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
According to the police department, 21 members are participating and have already raised nearly $1,500 for the cause.
The statistics are alarming – one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, and 24 percent of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women.
Officers will be allowed to wear mustaches and neatly-trimmed bears during November if they are pledging to raise money for the cause.
