The Anoka-Hennepin School District says it suspended the head coach of the Anoka High School's Girls' Varsity basketball team. The suspension was two-days without pay, according to a District spokesperson. The discipline came after there were suggestive messages sent to a teenage student from the coach's Twitter account.
James Fassett, 44, has been employed by the school district since 2009. The mother of the girl who received the Twitter messages tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she is outraged by the district's punishment. We are not using the mom's name to protect her daughter. The mom showed us one of the Twitter messages that reads "do you need me to assign someone to butter your muffin." Another Twitter message reads "Timberwolves game Saturday." The mom says the message suggests he would like a date with the 15-year-old girl.
A spokesperson for the Anoka-Hennepin School District declined to comment on camera, but told us the district acted immediately and appropriately when they found out about the Twitter messages. Fassett is still the girls' varsity basketball coach and he works with students as a Student Learning Advocate.
