Sauk Rapids Mayor Arrested on Suspicion of DWI

Bookmark and Share

Sauk Rapids police say Mayor Bradley Gunderson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday as police investigated a crash.

According to police, Gunderson, 48, was arrested after a one vehicle property damage accident just before 3 p.m. on 18th Street North.

Two green trash cans were destroyed, plus a florescent yellow crosswalk sign at the intersection of Summit Avenue North and Ninth Avenue.

Gunderson provided a urine sample for analysis by the BCA to determine his blood alcohol level. Police say no formal charges will be made until the results are returned from the BCA.

The Minnesota State Patrol assisted in processing Gunderson and then released him at his home.

When 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS went to Gunderson's home to ask him about the incident he said "no comment."

"I would hope that he would resign," said resident Erick Anderson after learning the mayor was arrested right outside his front door.

Councilman Paul Weber told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS over the phone he was aware of the situation with the mayor, but didn't want talk about the arrest any further than that. Councilman Nick Sauer didn't want to speak either.

This is not the first time Gunderson has been arrested for drinking and driving. He was convicted in 1985 of a DWI in Anoka, and in another DWI in 1991 in Stearns County.
