Heavy Snow Expected for Morning Commute

Periods of moderate to heavy snowfall are expected overnight into Tuesday morning as the second wave of a late-season storm moves through eastern Minnesota.

KSTP.com Meteorologist Dave Dahl says heavy snowfall is expected during the Tuesday morning commute.

MnDOT is advising drivers to plan ahead and leave early.

A winter storm warning is in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday for portions of Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Dave is predicting snowfall amounts overnight in the range of 4 to 8 inches, with another 2 to 4 inches during the day Tuesday.

Most areas will see 6 to 12 inches of total accumulation, with some heavier amounts east of the metro and in Western Wisconsin.

The first wave of snow dropped one to two inches in the Twin Cites metro. Up to four inches of snow was reported in Wanamingo in southern Minnesota. Check the latest totals here.

Several cities have already declared snow emergencies.
