|"There's a lot of warmth in Minnesota, despite the weather, because people care about one another. I love being part of the process of telling the stories that make a difference in people's lives."|
Brad came to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in March 2004 after five years as a reporter at WPHL-TV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brad started his career by interning for Dan Rather at CBS News in New York. His first on-air job was anchoring at WDTV in Clarksburg, West Virginia in the late 1980's and later reported for WITF-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from 1990 to 1991. Brad spent some time as a weekend anchor and investigative reporter at WSPA-TV in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, from 1991 to 1999. He also earned a summer fellowship from the International Radio and Television Society in 1987.
Brad has earned four Emmy Awards ranging from breaking news to feature stories. He has been recognized by the Associated Press for his live, breaking news reporting, by the Radio and Television News Directors' Association for his investigative work, and was voted by a Philadelphia newspaper as one of the best reporters in Philadelphia in 2002.
Among his career highlights, one notable story includes a series on mismanagement of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Brad was also the first reporter on the scene to cover the story, and later the trial, of Susan Smith, the Union, South Carolina mother who drowned her two children. During his career, Brad has also interviewed presidents Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton.
In 1988 Brad graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
Brad grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs of Shillington, Pennsylvania, and today resides in St. Louis Park. His hobbies include running, reading, and traveling. Brad is currently in the process of watching every Oscar-winning movie since 1929, which proved to be a tougher challenge than he originally thought. He is a Philadelphia sports fan, although there's not much to cheer about these days. Living in Minnesota, Brad finds it easy to root for the Twins and Vikings, except when the Phillies or Eagles are in town.
